Pray BIG: A Devotional

Pray BIG: A Devotional

Libbey and I were in the thick of planning and launching our first ever jewelry pieces in the boutique. We wanted them to be special and we wanted them to carry some weight; we wanted them to mean something and to resonate with you as you wear them. As I was praying about the messages and the reminders they'd be for us, each theme and concept Jesus gave me, the more excited I became to dive into the blogs that would accompany their release! For this blog, I want to share some of the responses from a few people in the Mod Threads community that came to mind when I said, "Pray BIG." I also want to share a few encouraging scriptures and a challenge for you to do at the end!

Pray BIG.

Prayer is important. Prayer intercedes. Prayer is a direct line of communication with Jesus. It's an act of obedience. It's good for us. Prayer changes things.

I was scrolling on Instagram the other day with this blog on my mind when I came across a quote that said, "Pray in a way that makes room for God's answer to astound you." In order for this to happen, we need to widen our expectations of what He's capable of doing. If we pray small, we are believing for only limited outcomes or provision. When we pray BIG we are believing that God is capable of the healing we can't fathom, the restoration we deeply long for, the outcome that we can't even imagine, or even the miracle that we've exhausted all resources in trying to achieve ourselves. Praying BIG means that we choose to believe BIG. What does praying BIG mean to you? Here's what it means to some of our Mod Threads community:

"It represents two years of infertility and two miscarriages later and now I finally have my angel baby to rock through the night."

"We should pray the prayers that seem impossible or too far out of reach. Praying big requires stretching our faith."

"Giving it to God completely. Trusting and believing that He has it all and that His answer is the best. Praying BIG is trusting 100%!"

"Praying BIG is asking for more than I think I deserve and leaning into God's generous nature. It's attaching FAITH to the asking."

"Boldness is what comes to mind for me. Being bold enough to pray for "anything" and bold enough to pray into whatever "it" is, even if it means wrecking my plans because His ways are far better than mine. His will...not mine."

"Pray BIG and shake the very gates of hell! Expect exceedingly and abundantly more than you can imagine."

"To me it means to pray in line with God's promises regardless of my feelings and according to His power."

The Bible is full of accounts where Jesus healed and where He redeemed. It's drenched in truth of His generosity and power. We can learn so much from what was modeled for us in the testimonies of these historical events. Praying BIG is having faith that God can use you in BIG ways, just as He did with Ester. Praying BIG is having the confidence that He is known to have made literal walls crash down in Jericho. It's knowing that He's ALL knowing and knows best. It's the humility to kneel at His feet with a sacrifice of praise; it's surrendering your own will for your life and stepping into what He's calling you to do. It's knowing that He will make a way and provide for His children when logistics just don't measure up against our own understanding.

SCRIPTURE
Here are a few verses that came to mind as I was writing this blog. I pray they can encourage you like they did me!

"Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

"Truly I tell you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

"You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father." John 14:13

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

PRAYER ACTIVITY
I want to invite you to complete this activity with me.

1. Find a quiet moment. It could be in your car, in your room, in your closet, etc. Find a space and get comfortable.

2. Grab something to write on and with. I have my journal and my favorite pen!

3. On your phone or computer, play the song Promise Keeper. As this song is playing, write down your BIG thing (or things!) that you need to hand over to Jesus.

4. Now here comes the best part. It's time to pray and to pray BIG. As the song comes to a close, worship and submit your needs to our Father. He is meeting you there. He is hearing your heart. He is gracious and generous and will make a way when there seems to be no way. Don't be afraid to ask or to say it out loud. He takes what the enemy meant for evil and He turns it for good!

What are you praying for? Submit a prayer request to us or comment on this blog. We will personally be praying with and for you!
